Job summary

The Department of Transportation (DOT) of New York City is seeking an Apprentice Inspector (Highways) to inspect roadway conditions, coordinate with utility companies and contractors, and ensure repairs meet DOT standards ahead of citywide events.

The role requires a valid NY driver license, residency in NYC within 90 days, strong communication skills, and the ability to log field work on a tablet and submit daily reports. Preference for construction/utility experience.

Qualifications

• Must possess a motor vehicle driver license valid in New York State.
• NYC residency within 90 days of appointment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in construction or utility work preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspect roadway defects and openings related to events.
• Act as liaison with DOT divisions, city/state agencies, utilities and contractors.
• Route daily work, log field data using a tablet, and submit reports.
• Observe backfill and restorations to ensure compliance with Local Law 14.
• Perform final site inspections with event routes to ensure safety.
