Job summary

Alliant Energy seeks an automotive service technician to inspect, overhaul, repair and maintain equipment under supervision. The role focuses on gasoline/diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, brakes and structural components, with emphasis on safety and reliability.

Apprentice or Journey level depending on qualifications; includes driving duties and potential CDL requirement, plus DOT drug/alcohol testing compliance. Competitive pay and strong benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Completion of the Garage Mechanic Apprenticeship and pass the final position qualification exam.
• Preferred: 1-2 years of technical training in mechanical/hydraulics or five years’ experience in major overhauls on automotive, construction and other mechanical equipment.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License prior to the end of trial period.
• Subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements under 49 CFR Part 40 and FMCSA regulations.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, services, diagnoses, repairs and overhauls gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, axles, hydraulic and air brake systems, and other components; aligns front ends.
• Inspects, diagnoses and repairs minor structural failures and cracks in booms, frames and supports.
• Issues gas and oil; paints with brush or gun; drives a truck or operates equipment.
• Performs other duties similar or incidental to this position.
