Job Summary
Performs layout, installation, and repairs of wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
- The electrical trade is typically learned through a 4- or 5-year apprenticeship program.
- Apprenticeship provides comprehensive knowledge of all trade aspects.
- High school courses in mathematics, electricity, electronics, mechanical drawing, science, and shop are beneficial; technical schools are also advantageous.
- Applicants usually must pass an examination testing electrical theory, the National Electrical Code, and local electrical and building codes.

Job Responsibilities
- Plan new or modified installations to minimize material waste.
- Ensure access for future maintenance and avoid hazardous or unsightly wiring, complying with specifications and local codes.
- Prepare sketches or follow diagrams/blueprints for wiring and equipment placement, ensuring concealed wiring is installed before walls, ceilings, and flooring are completed.
- Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using appropriate tools.
- Pull wiring through conduit, assisted by an electrician helper.
- Splice wires by stripping insulation, twisting or soldering wires, and applying tape or terminal caps.
- Connect wiring to fixtures and equipment using hand tools.
- Install control and distribution devices such as switches, relays, and circuit breakers.
- Connect power cables to equipment and install grounding leads.
- Test circuit continuity to ensure safety and compatibility.
- Monitor functioning of installed systems for hazards or needed adjustments.
- May repair faulty equipment or systems.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Compensation & Benefits
- $18.30 - $25 per hour.
