Job summary

Port Houston Bayport is seeking an Apprentice Crane Technician. Under close supervision you will learn to complete inspections, perform maintenance, and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues to keep cranes safe and productive.

This apprenticeship blends classroom hours with 8000 hours of paid on-the-job training over up to five years, teaching reading blueprints, safety, and technical skills essential to OEM standards.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• Must be a self-starter with initiative to advance.
• Excellent communication, written and verbal.
• Able to climb and work at heights.
• Knowledge of safety policies and procedures.
• Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license; TWIC within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Assist with inspections, maintenance, and troubleshooting of cranes to OEM standards.
• Learn to diagnose equipment malfunctions and determine corrective actions.
• Collaborate with Crane Technicians, Mechanics, and Electricians on maintenance tasks.
• Study electrical controls and circuits on Port Houston equipment; learn medium voltage switchgear.
• Review factory manuals and blueprints to support job assignments.
