Apprentice 1st year - Pipefitter (Platte City)

Purpose

This position reports to the Manager, Operations and is responsible for performing a full range of construction and maintenance activities on transmission and distribution systems and facilities, as applicable. Work is performed in accordance with Company, regulatory, and safety procedures, with assignments from the Crew Foreman.

Accountabilities
  • Prioritize safety as a core value; know, understand, and comply with all safety policies and regulations. Stop and correct unsafe practices and refuse unsafe work.
  • Perform leak investigations, classify underground leaks, locate underground gas lines, and monitor leaks until repairs are completed.
  • Install and maintain natural gas lines, mains, meters, and regulators.
  • Operate and maintain heavy and specialized equipment.
  • Review job site maps, ensure utility markings are correctly placed.
  • Perform welding operations as required.
  • Inspect contractor work for compliance with policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Provide barricade and channelization services in compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Assist in training and guiding other employees engaged in similar duties.
  • Respond to natural gas and other emergencies promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports to meet regulatory and company requirements.
  • Possibly hold standby/first responder duties and operate emergency valves per regulations.
  • Assist MIC technicians when needed.
  • Install, maintain, and repair cathodic protection systems according to safety regulations and standards.
  • Report safety and encroachment issues for resolution.
  • Operate and inspect assigned vehicles and equipment safely.
  • Support and adhere to company values, policies, and procedures, demonstrating core values of Customer Service, Safety, and Conduct.
  • Complete safety training and familiarize with the Safety Manual.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Maintain Operator Qualifications (OQs) and classroom training for the role.
  • Valid driver’s license and CDL as per company standards.
  • Welding certification may be required.
  • Knowledge of software applications for data management.
  • Effective communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions, including exposure to noise, rough terrain, and confined spaces.
  • Physical activities including stooping, bending, crawling, kneeling, grasping, reaching, climbing, and lifting up to 100 pounds.
  • Position has living restrictions.
