Apprentice 1st year - Pipefitter (Platte City)

This position reports to Manager, Operations and is responsible for performing the full range of construction and maintenance activities on transmission and distribution systems and facilities, as applicable. Performs such work in accordance with Company, regulatory and safety procedures, and takes assignments when performing construction and maintenance activities from Crew Foreman.

Accountabilities
  • Safety is a core value of our company and no job is so important that it cannot be completed safely. It is the responsibility of all employees to know, understand, and comply with all company safety policies and federal, state, and local regulations. Employees have a responsibility to stop and correct unsafe work practices and to refuse to work in an unsafe situation.
  • Performs leak investigations and classifies underground leaks. Locates underground gas lines. Monitors and re-evaluates leaks until repairs are completed.
  • Installs and maintains natural gas lines, mains, meters, and regulators.
  • Operates and maintains heavy and/or specialized equipment.
  • Reviews job site maps for all utility lines and ensures placement of utility markings at the site.
  • Inspects work of contractor crews to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Provides barricade and channelization services at worksites in compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Assists in training and directing other employees engaged in similar duties.
  • Responds to natural gas and other emergencies.
  • Maintains accurate records and reports to comply with requirements.
  • May hold stand-by/first responder duties (FRD).
  • Exercises emergency valves per regulations and standards.
  • Assists MIC technicians when needed.
  • Maintains and repairs cathodic protection systems, conducts interference surveys, and replaces insulators.
  • May be required to report outside regular work area.
  • Addresses safety and encroachment issues.
  • Operates and inspects company vehicles and equipment safely.
  • Supports and adheres to company values, policies, and procedures.
  • Familiarizes with the Safety Manual and completes safety training.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Maintains Operator Qualifications (OQs) and classroom training.
  • Valid driver’s license and CDL required.
  • May require a welding certificate.
  • Knowledge of software applications for data tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Works outdoors in various weather conditions and physical environments.
  • Activities include stooping, bending, crawling, kneeling, grasping, reaching, climbing, and lifting up to 100 pounds.
  • Position has living restrictions.
