Job summary

Waterloo Elementary in Waterloo, Indiana seeks an Applied Skills Paraprofessional to support students with diverse cognitive, behavioral, emotional and medical needs. Responsibilities

• Assist in the learning activities of children with multiple cognitive, behavior, emotional and medical abilities.
• Provide clerical and instructional support for the instructional teacher.
• Assist in individual or small group instruction on individualized goals.
• Support individual student performance levels, needs and abilities.
• Assist with bus loading/unloading, lunch, toileting, and mobility needs.
• Assist with behavior management and maintain a safe classroom atmosphere.
• Collaborate with teachers and paraprofessionals in applied skills classrooms.
• Participate in CPI training and related safety protocols.
• Work full-time, 37.5 hours per week.

What your day will look like:

Under supervision, you will be involved in the entire educational day of children. This will include:

• Assisting in the learning activities of children who have multiple cognitive, behavior, emotional and medical abilities.
• Provide various clerical and instructional support for the instructional teacher.
• Assisting in the individual or small group instruction of students on individualized goals.
• Ensure that the individual student performance levels, needs and abilities are supported.
• Assist students off the bus and into the building, and out of the building and on the bus.
• Assist students as they learn how to serve themselves at lunch and assist with feeding.
• Assist students in learning toileting, which may include assisting in the restroom, changing diapers, and assisting with other medical needs.
• Lifting students into and out of wheelchairs.
• Assist in behavior management of students and maintaining a safe atmosphere for students in your care.
• Receive Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Training.
• Collaborate with teachers and other paraprofessionals in the applied skills classrooms.
• This position will be 37.5 hours per week.
