Job summary

DeKalb County Central United School District seeks an Elementary Intervention Paraprofessional to support learning at Waterloo Elementary. Under supervision, you will assist in instructional activities, tutor students, manage materials, and help maintain a positive, safe classroom environment.

This part-time role (29.5 hours or less per week) offers a schedule aligned with school calendars; candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent and be able to lift 25–50 pounds and stand for

Responsibilities

• Assist instructional personnel with instructional activities.
• Tutor individual students and small groups.
• Monitor and assist students in practice and study activities.
• Direct students in safe, positive learning behaviors.
• Support in behavior management using positive strategies.
• Prepare instructional materials and learning aids.
• Maintain and protect confidential student records.
• Operate instructional media machines and equipment.
• Administer and score tests and record results.
• Contribute to a well-organized, positive learning environment.
• Participate in parent conferences and progress reporting.

What your day will look like:

Under supervision, you will perform a variety of instructional activities; assist in the conduct of student learning experiences; perform routine clerical and supportive tasks for instructional personnel, and do other related work as required. This will include:

• Assisting instructional personnel with the presentation of learning materials and in conducting instructional exercises.
• Tutoring individual students and small groups of students to reinforce and follow up on learning activities.
• Monitoring and assisting students in practice and study activities as a follow-up to the presentation of instructional concepts by instructional personnel.
• Directing students into safe learning activities and functions, and assisting in the shaping of appropriate social behaviors.
• Assisting in the management of student behavior through the use of positive strategies and techniques.
• Preparing and assisting in the preparation of a variety of instructional materials and learning aids for use with an individual or small group of students.
• Maintaining a variety of records and files, including confidential student records and information.
• Maintaining student record confidentiality.
• Operating and assisting students in the operation of a variety of instructional media machines and equipment.
• You may administer and score a variety of criterion-referenced and general aptitude tests, and record the test results.
• Assisting in maintaining an orderly, attractive, and positive learning environment.
• You may participate in parent conferences and other student progress report activities.
• This is a part time position with 29.5 hours or less per week.
