Job summary

Amazon, Titans Science team in Seattle, is seeking a Senior Applied Scientist to advance RL-based agent systems. You will translate seller pain points into scalable ML solutions, framing business challenges as tractable scientific problems and deploying them in production at scale.

You will lead research across RL, NLU, optimization, and statistics, and collaborate with engineers and product partners to deliver impactful seller experiences while mentoring junior scientists.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of applied research experience.
• 5+ years building machine learning models for business applications.
• PhD, or Master's degree with 5+ years of applied research experience.
• Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language.
• Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning.
• Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow, numpy, scipy, etc.
• Experience in a variety of design, wire-framing, and prototyping tools.
• Demonstrated experience leveraging generative AI tools to enhance workflow efficiency and productivity.
• Experience identifying opportunities to integrate AI solutions into products and services to drive business value.

Responsibilities

• - Own end-to-end research and development of RL-based agent improvement systems from problem formulation through production deployment and impact measurement.
• - Design novel approaches to preference learning, reward modeling, and policy optimization for conversational agents.
• - Build and maintain evaluation frameworks measuring agent quality across multiple dimensions.
• - Collaborate with a team of scientists across NLP, Optimization, ML and Statistics.
• - Partner with 10+ engineering teams to deploy models into production for global sellers.
• - Publish research at top venues and contribute to hiring and mentorship.
