Job summary

Amazon Selection and Catalog Systems (ASCS) seeks an innovative applied scientist to advance GenAI solutions for product identity and relationships across Amazon’s catalog. You will partner with tech and business leaders to build state-of-the-art algorithms and services, operating on massive multimodal data to improve the shopping experience for hundreds of millions of customers.

The role requires PhD or Masters with 4+ years in CS/ML, proficiency in Java/C++/Python, and a track record of ML

Qualifications

• PhD, or Master’s degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience.
• Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language.
• 2+ years of building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business applications experience.

Responsibilities

• Formulate open research problems at the intersection of GenAI, multimodal reasoning, and information retrieval.
• Push the boundaries of VLMs and foundation models for product identity and catalog understanding.
• Develop deployment strategies to preserve multimodal reasoning at billion-product scale while reducing latency and infrastructure cost.
• Improve uncertainty calibration, confidence estimation, and interpretability for trusted GenAI systems.
• Own the full research lifecycle from problem formulation to production deployment.
• Shape the team’s research vision with technical roadmaps balancing research and product impact.
• Mentor scientists and engineers on ML techniques, experimental design, and rigor.
• Represent the team in the broader science community through publications and talks.
