Job summary

Amazon Web Services, Inc. seeks an Applied Science Manager for AWS Startups to lead a team of scientists and analysts building data and ML capabilities.

You will own the science roadmap end-to-end, from data foundations to production-ready models and insights for startup products. You will balance hands-on leadership with people management, setting technical standards, mentoring career growth, and partnering with product and engineering teams to deliver scalable AI-powered guidance and scale

Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s with 4+ years of applied research experience.
• 4+ years of applied research experience.
• 3+ years of scientists or machine learning engineers management experience.
• Experience in ML, statistics, deep learning, NLP, or information retrieval.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, Ruby, Node.js, C#, or C.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and grow a team of applied scientists, BI engineers, and analysts.
• Own and prioritize the team’s science roadmap across data foundation, model development, and insights delivery.
• Set technical direction for ML models and data assets balancing experimentation with production quality and cost.
• Scope projects, design experiments, ensure models are productionized with measurable impact.
• Establish standards for model evaluation and operational excellence.
• Partner with product, engineering, design, and GTM teams to translate science into scalable outcomes.
• Communicate strategy and results to technical and non-technical leaders.
