Job summary

Acuity Inc. is seeking a Research Engineer for the Applied Research & Technology team to advance ML research and software for spatial intelligent environments.

You will prototype, productionize, and deploy intelligent components that transform buildings into responsive, context-aware spaces. You will work on productionizing ML and CV models while integrating with AV control infrastructure and IoT platforms to drive next-gen building intelligence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 3+ years of software development experience with Python and object-oriented design principles.
• Experience developing, fine-tuning, and deploying ML models using PyTorch, TensorFlow, ONNX, or TensorRT for edge or real-time apps.
• Practical understanding of computer vision fundamentals, image processing, object detection, or spatial sensing architectures (OpenCV, spatial tracking).
• Familiarity with AV/Q-SYS core architectures, Lua scripting, or control API integrations.
• Experience with REST APIs, gRPC, MQTT, WebSockets and network protocols used in AV/IoT.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and deploy efficient machine learning pipelines and models for real-time inference in edge/cloud-connected spatial environments.
• Implement vision-based applications to enhance space context and automated room control.
• Develop software integrations connecting AI/ML pipelines with AV ecosystems (QSC/Q-SYS, Atrius, Distech).
• Write production-grade code in Python, C/C++, Go, or TypeScript for edge devices and microservices.
• Prototype-to-production: build end-to-end demos, validate spatial intelligence algorithms, scale to platform services.
• Collaborate with hardware, firmware, software platform, and product teams to translate research into commercial solutions.
