Job summary

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine seeks a Principal Scientist, Applied AI in Immunology Discovery, to design and pilot AI-enabled solutions for high-value scientific use cases at Spring House, PA (also La Jolla, CA or Cambridge, MA). This individual contributor role partners with discovery scientists and enterprise teams to translate prototypes into scalable capabilities.

Candidates should have a PhD, 4+ years experience, expertise in R/Python, and a track record delivering AI solutions in

Qualifications

• PhD in AI or computational science with relevant field focus.
• 4+ years of industry or applied research experience using computational methods.
• Proven ability to build AI/ML solutions in R or Python and modern environments.
• Experience with generative AI, LLMs, retrieval augmented generation, and agentic workflows.
• Ability to integrate data sources, tools, models while respecting governance and IP.
• Strong cross-disciplinary communication and collaboration skills.
• High scientific rigor and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Independently build and execute AI prototype plans across scientific use cases.
• Design and evaluate AI solutions including copilots and retrieval augmented apps.
• Translate complex needs into clear requirements, hypotheses, and plans.
• Partner with scientists and end users to gather feedback and improve solutions.
• Demonstrate value through rigorous evaluation of accuracy, reliability, and impact.
• Collaborate with AI, data science, engineering and governance teams to scale prototypes.
