Job summary

SRC, Inc. is seeking an AI/ML Engineer to join a hands-on, early-career team building machine learning and generative AI capabilities for defense and national security missions in Dayton, OH.

You will assemble and curate datasets, train and fine-tune models, and build evaluation harnesses to prove models meet field readiness. Collaboration with senior engineers and researchers will grow your ownership over time.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field with 0+ years of related experience.
• Proficiency in Python and scientific stack (NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, matplotlib).
• Familiarity with PyTorch and Hugging Face tooling (Transformers, Datasets, Tokenizers).
• Understanding ML fundamentals and evaluation metrics across tasks.
• Git-based collaboration and clear communication.

Responsibilities

• Build and curate datasets from real and simulated sources, handling imbalance and noise.
• Train, fine-tune, and benchmark models using standard frameworks.
• Develop evaluation pipelines and report results honestly, including negatives.
• Support generative AI efforts with prompts and retrieval-augmented generation.
• Assist with parameter-efficient fine-tuning and supervised fine-tuning of models.
• Implement RL experiments and ensure reproducible measurement.
• Maintain experiment tracking and code hygiene for reproducibility.
• Contribute data, figures, and writeups to reports and reviews.
• Collaborate with engineers and domain experts to understand sensor data.
