Job summary

SRC, Inc. seeks a Senior AI/ML Engineer to lead ML and generative AI efforts across ISR, EW and sensing missions. You’ll own problems, design data strategies, build models and guide teams to transition results into programs. Expect rigorous evaluation, reproducibility, and collaboration with engineers and program staff.

Requires strong Python, PyTorch, and LLM toolchain experience, plus mentoring skills. Dayton, OH based role with competitive compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering/Math/Physics or related field with 4+ years of relevant experience.
• Proven record shipping ML systems from concept to production.
• Strong Python and PyTorch expertise with training loops, data pipelines, and profiling.
• Experience with modern LLM toolchains and inference frameworks.
• Experience mentoring engineers and communicating with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead AI/ML tasks from problem formulation through data strategy to model development and transition.
• Design data strategies for scarce or expensive labeled data, including synthetic data.
• Own end-to-end model development, training, fine-tuning, and evaluation.
• Build robust evaluation with task-grounded metrics and rigorous statistics.
• Lead generative AI efforts: SFT, DPO, GRPO, RAG and tool-using systems.
• Apply reinforcement learning where appropriate and articulate when not.
• Drive model efficiency and deployment readiness, including quantization and pruning.
• Establish reproducibility via experiment tracking, versioning, and CI.
• Mentor junior engineers and raise team technical rigor.
• Contribute to proposals, white papers, and customer materials.
• Migrate models from research to real-time and embedded applications.
• Identify risks early and propose alternative approaches.
