Job summary

Frank L. Blum Construction Company in Asheville, NC seeks an Applied AI Specialist to turn defined problems into production-ready AI tooling. You will build reporting from corporate systems and create tools that speed up day-to-day department work with reliable analytics.

You will own design within department standards, develop retrieval pipelines, and maintain governance and security around data and models. The role emphasizes practical AI deployment and robust operational practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, data science, information systems or related field.
• Three+ years of professional software, data or automation engineering experience.
• Production experience with large language model services, including prompt design and tool calling.
• Experience building retrieval over a document corpus with embedding and relevance evaluation.
• Proficiency in a general-language used for integration, including web interfaces and data transformation.
• Experience connecting third-party software platforms through published interfaces.
• Working knowledge of SQL and data warehouses, and source control with automated testing and deployment.
• Experience operating a language-model application in production with monitoring and incident response.
• Ability to explain technical work to a non-technical audience.

Responsibilities

• Build tooling that assembles reporting from corporate systems for better analytics.
• Develop AI tools to improve department workflows and automate tasks.
• Design, build, test and deploy agents and assistants for research, review and reporting.
• Prototype quickly, measure results, and harden or retire as appropriate.
• Extract structured data from documents using vision models and language models.
• Write and maintain integrations to connect platforms to AI services.
• Create retrieval pipelines over company documents and project data.
• Collaborate on the data warehouse ingestion, modeling and interfaces.
• Maintain source control, environment config, testing and deployment practices.
• Build connectors using open agent protocols with named service accounts.
• Treat the data warehouse as primary source for tool outputs; govern figures.
