Job description

Own the end-to-end delivery of AI-powered internal tools and automated workflows for one or more home24 operational areas – from problem framing and opportunity sizing through hands‑on implementation, evaluation, rollout, monitoring, adoption, and continuous improvement.

Our new Applied AI Engineer (m/f/d) is a hands‑on technical owner who turns internal stakeholder challenges into reliable production workflows. You combine applied AI engineering, workflow automation, evaluation discipline, and product ownership to deliver measurable operational impact for home24’s commercial and operational teams.

Your Responsibilities

• You own the AI tooling backlog within your operational area, managing the discovery, delivery, and prioritization of Stories, Epics, and Initiatives in an agile team.
• You translate internal stakeholder problems into clear AI tooling opportunities, building realistic business cases with impact estimation, cost projection, and ROI.
• You build and implement internal AI tools using Google’s Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, Amazon Bedrock, or comparable platforms, including prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, and agentic tool‑use systems.
• You design and operate complex automated workflows in n8n, ensuring multi‑step orchestration, conditional branching, error handling, and seamless integration with home24 data sources (PIM, ERP, data warehouses).
• You establish rigorous model selection and AI evaluation frameworks, utilizing golden datasets, automated regression suites, LLM‑as‑a‑judge patterns, and qualitative review processes.
• You monitor and analyze production workflows to optimize KPIs (throughput, quality, cost per item, hours saved) while ensuring observability, version control, and alert systems for quality drift.
• You drive user adoption and solution validation by organizing stakeholder meetings, onboarding sessions, written documentation, and continuous feedback loops across operational teams.
• You consult on the design of AB tests, shadow evaluations, and human‑rated quality reviews of AI tooling.
• You ensure responsible AI practices, addressing bias review, data privacy, content safety, EU AI Act compliance, and brand‑safety guardrails for generative content.
• You mentor Junior Applied AI Engineers on prompt engineering, n8n workflow design, evaluation craft, code quality, and product judgment.
• You stay ahead of the foundation‑model frontier (vision, multimodal AI, agentic automation) and proactively surface new opportunities to leadership.

Your Profile

• You bring 3–5 years of combined experience across AI/ML, software, or automation engineering, including at least 12 months of hands‑on experience with generative AI systems.
• You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a comparable discipline (or possess an equivalent demonstrable production track record).
• You have a proven track record of shipping at least one AI‑powered internal tool or automated workflow to production with measurable operational impact, ideally in e‑commerce, retail, or marketplace environments.
• You possess production‑grade Python skills to build, maintain, and debug AI‑powered services and integrations (TypeScript/Node knowledge is a plus).
• You demonstrate strong hands‑on experience with platforms like Google’s Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform or Amazon Bedrock, covering authentication, IAM, quota management, and emerging integration patterns (e.g., MCP).
• You hold strong expertise in designing and operating complex production workflows in n8n, including multi‑step orchestration, conditional branching, and error handling.
• You excel in advanced prompt engineering, context engineering, system instructions, structured outputs, and prompt versioning or evaluation.
• You combine deep practical knowledge of production AI systems (RAG, agentic workflows, document processing, image/video generation) with a solid understanding of the current model landscape (Gemini, OpenAI, Claude, open‑source families).
• You understand cloud‑native delivery (CI/CD, logging, monitoring, secrets handling) and practical AI safety risks (prompt injection, data leakage, guardrails).
• You display strong stakeholder management and product skills, confidently managing backlogs and adapting communication between technical engineers and non‑technical business audiences.
• You show strong statistical and commercial literacy, allowing you to design AB tests, interpret KPI dashboards, and frame AI capabilities in business‑case terms (hours saved, capacity unlocked).
• You harbor a genuine, sustained passion for AI, actively following the field, building side projects, and ideally bringing a visible track record of complex production n8n workflows (strong plus).
