We are seeking an Applications Specialist for our Laser Technologies division in Storrs, CT
Help customers solve complex scientific and industrial challenges using next-generation laser processing technology. In this role, you will develop laser-based workflows, support groundbreaking applications, train users around the world, and work directly with customers to transform ideas into successful outcomes.
Job Duties
- Partner with customers to develop and optimize laser-processing applications that meet specific research, manufacturing, and analytical objectives.
- Design and perform experiments using advanced laser systems, SEM, FIB, optical imaging, and related analytical technologies.
- Troubleshoot technical challenges, refine processing methods, and deliver reliable, repeatable workflows that achieve customer expectations.
- Own customer application projects from initial concept through final results, managing scope, priorities, timelines, and deliverables.
- Capture and analyze imaging and experimental data, document findings, and prepare clear technical reports with recommendations and conclusions.
- Plan and execute technical demonstrations, feasibility studies, and proof-of-concept projects that showcase the capabilities of Laser Technologies solutions.
- Collaborate closely with Sales teams by providing technical expertise, application insights, presentations, and customer support throughout the evaluation process.
- Deliver customer training, installation support, workflow transfer, and ongoing applications assistance through both remote and on-site engagement.
- Travel globally to support customer projects, demonstrations, installations, and technical training activities.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's, Master's degree or PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or a related scientific discipline.
- Hands-on experience with laser material processing and operation of SEM and/or FIB systems.
- Experience with ultrafast or femtosecond laser technologies is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to develop processes, design experiments, troubleshoot equipment, and solve complex technical challenges.
- Experience working with advanced materials such as semiconductors, glass, ceramics, metals, or similar materials.
- Customer-facing experience delivering demonstrations, training, application support, or technical troubleshooting.
- Willingness to travel globally up to 40-50%.
