Garaga is seeking an Applications Engineering Technician to join its engineering team in Ponca City, OK. You will test, evaluate, and optimize garage door systems to meet market requirements, develop wind load packages, support regulatory compliance, and create detailed CAD drawings.

This role blends hands-on work, engineering analysis, and field support, with opportunities to contribute to new product development and supplier collaboration. Start ASAP; full-time, permanent; Mon–Fri schedule.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of engineering experience, preferably in garage door systems or building products.
• Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD/SolidWorks) and understanding of industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Test garage doors to meet ANSI/DASMA 108 standards and develop wind load packages.
• Evaluate door systems and components for DASMA compliance and liability risk.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities by evaluating deflection, track gauges and structural elements.
• Perform VA/VE of parts to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Develop CAD drawings for track assemblies and custom lift applications.
• Provide technical drawings to support production, installation and custom projects.
• Support field installation teams with technical challenges.
• Troubleshoot field issues and develop corrective measures.
• Collaborate on design, development, and testing of new products.
• Test components and verify supplier quality for performance and safety.

Our Applications Engineering Technician Responsibilities:

• Test garage doors to meet ANSI/DASMA 108 standards and develop new wind load packages for windstorm‑prone markets.
• Evaluate door systems, components, and labeling to ensure compliance with DASMA industry standards and mitigate liability risks.
• Identify cost‑saving opportunities by evaluating deflection requirements, minimum strut counts, track gauges, and other structural elements.
• Perform Value Assessment/Value Engineering (VA/VE) of component parts to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Develop CAD drawings for track assemblies, custom lift applications, and job shop drawings.
• Provide technical drawings to support production, installation, and custom project requirements.
• Support field installation teams with technical challenges and complex or custom applications.
• Troubleshoot field issues and develop corrective measures as needed.
• Collaborate on the design, development, and testing of new products and components.
• Test components and verify supplier quality to ensure performance, safety, reliability, and compliance.
• Manage the location’s spring configuration, specifications, and quality.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The Qualifications and Skills We Are Looking for in our Applications Engineering Technician:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of experience in an engineering role, preferably in garage door systems, building products, or similar industries.
• Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar.
• Strong understanding of DASMA standards, ANSI testing protocols, and wind load requirements.
• Experience with Value Engineering, cost analysis, and product optimization.
• Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and project management skills.
• Strong communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration and field support.

Requirements and Skills

• Previous experience managing technical teams or projects.
• Familiarity with supplier verification processes and quality assurance testing.
• Hands‑on experience with custom lift applications and complex installations.
• Combination of office, lab/testing facility, and field‑based work.
• Occasional travel to supplier locations, job sites, or customer facilities.

Physical Demands

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, and climbing ladders and stairs.
• Frequent lifting of items weighing 20 to 75 pounds.
