Job description

Description

Applications Engineer, Industrial Water/Wastewater

Design the flowsheet, price the job, and be the technical voice that wins industrial water deals

Seven Seas Water Group is looking for an Applications Engineer to serve as the technical spearhead of our industrial Water-as-a-Service® (iWaaS®) business. Given a customer's influent characterization and effluent requirements, you'll develop the treatment flowsheet we can confidently guarantee and price it from the ground up. You'll work closely with our origination and business development team throughout the sales cycle as the primary technical point of contact in front of a prospect's own engineers and plant managers, the credibility that separates an iWaaS® pitch that sounds good from one that survives technical diligence. This is a hybrid role based in Tampa, Florida or Houston, Texas, with 20 to 30% travel to customer sites, suppliers, and pilot work.

Who we are

Seven Seas Water Group (SSWG) delivers more than 20 billion gallons of water a year to industrial, governmental, municipal, and hospitality customers across the U.S., Caribbean, and Latin America. Through our Water-as-a-Service® (WaaS®) model, we design, build, own, and operate more than 200 water and wastewater treatment plants, taking on the capital and operational risk so our customers don't have to. SSWG is a portfolio company of EQT, a global investment firm with more than three decades of experience building essential infrastructure.

What you'll own

You’ll translate customer influent and effluent requirements into a complete treatment flowsheet, mass balance, PFD, and design basis, that SSWG can guarantee and operate profitably for the life of a long-term contract.

That means designing for ownership:

  • weighing reliability, redundancy, chemical and energy consumption, and lifecycle cost, not just capital cost
  • pushing past the default treatment train to find a solution that's more clever, more compact, or more economical than what the competition proposes.
  • draw on the full industrial treatment toolbox, biological (MBR, SBR, MBBR, anaerobic), physical/chemical (DAF, clarification, softening), membranes and desalination (UF, RO), oxidation and disinfection (AOP, ozone, UV), PFAS treatment, and dewatering
  • be explicit about where the design basis is thin and what SSWG is guaranteeing and on what basis.

You’ll also own the supplier side of the equation:

  • maintaining a personal network of qualified vendors across every major unit operation
  • writing clear scopes of work
  • structuring supplier agreements so process performance guarantees flow through to what SSWG commits to its customers
  • lead technical bid evaluations, normalizing offerings and recommending selections on lifecycle value rather than purchase price.

As a key member of the pursuit team, you’ll price jobs from the ground up, developing the PFD and equipment list, sizing major and minor equipment, and building the capital estimate from firm supplier pricing. You’ll estimate the full cost of service, chemicals, energy, media replacement, residuals handling, staffing, and maintenance, the operating cost basis an iWaaS® contract lives or dies on, and own the technical content of proposals: process narrative, flowsheet, design basis, guarantees, and exclusions. At contract award, you’ll hand off a design basis, supplier commitments, and estimate that hold up in execution.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Environmental, or Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
  • 10+ years in industrial water and wastewater treatment in an applications, process, or proposal engineering role, with real depth in both water and wastewater
  • Direct experience with industrial clients and their waste streams (for example, food and beverage, chemicals, semiconductor and microelectronics, oil and gas, pharmaceutical, pulp and paper)
  • Demonstrated command of the major unit operations: biological (MBR, SBR, MBBR, anaerobic), physical/chemical (DAF, clarification), membrane (UF, RO), oxidation/disinfection (AOP, ozone, UV), PFAS treatment, and dewatering
  • A genuine, working supplier network across those technologies
  • Experience writing equipment scopes of work and negotiating process performance guarantees with suppliers
  • Ground-up estimating capability: PFD development, equipment selection and sizing, capital estimating from supplier pricing, and operating cost estimation
  • Strong communicator, credible in front of customers, suppliers, and executives alike
  • A PE license is highly desired but not required. Experience with alternative delivery models like DBOO/DBOOM, BOOT, or Water-as-a-Service® contracts, and piloting or treatability study experience, are both a plus.
Why this role

You'd be the technical authority behind SSWG's industrial pursuits, with real influence over which deals we win, what we guarantee, and how we price them. If you're a creative process engineer who wants ownership from flowsheet to price to proposal, this is that seat.
