Job summary

Invenergy, LLC, based in Chicago, IL, seeks a Solar Applications Project Engineer to evaluate and implement owner furnished equipment across its solar development and construction pipeline. You will serve as the technical SME for PV modules, inverters, and racking/tracker technologies on solar projects.

The role requires up to 25% travel, reports to the Applications Engineering Manager, and offers base pay with a 15% annual bonus plus traditional benefits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physical sciences, or related technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in the renewable energy industry.
  • Understanding of PV plant design, manufacturing processes, and general PV plant construction.
  • Domestic travel required and driver’s license.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Act as module, inverter, and racking/tracker technology SME for Invenergy’s solar projects.
  • Facilitate implementation of owner furnished equipment on solar projects.
  • Advise on technology assumptions for development projects.
  • Support origination and project management reviewing equipment specifications.
  • Coordinate with suppliers’ technical teams and translate specs into site designs or models.
  • Assist on-site installation and commissioning through construction end.
  • Collaborate with construction teams to capture lessons learned for future specs and sourcing.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and independents to perform testing and track production.

Job Description
Position Overview

The Solar Applications Project Engineer will be responsible for the evaluation and implementation of owner furnished equipment across Invenergy’s solar development and construction pipeline. Solar Applications Engineers act as the technical subject matter experts on photovoltaic modules, solar power conversion systems, and racking and tracking technologies for Invenergy’s solar construction projects.

The position will be based in Chicago, Illinois, and will require travel up to 25% of the time. This role reports to the Applications Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Equipment Technical Expertise – Act as module, inverter, and racking/tracker technology subject matter expert on behalf of Invenergy’s solar project teams.
  • Project Support – Facilitate implementation of owner furnished equipment on Invenergy’s solar projects.
  • Advise on technology assumptions for Invenergy’s development projects.
  • Support origination and project management teams reviewing off-take requirements and specifications for major equipment.
  • Support contracting efforts for equipment supply, EPC, and offtake agreements by maintaining and reviewing relevant technical exhibits.
  • Coordinate with supplier’s technical teams to ensure that technology selections are suitable for Invenergy’s construction projects.
  • Translate supplier technology specifications into appropriate site designs and/or performance modeling.
  • Support on-site equipment installation and commissioning through end of construction.
  • Support troubleshooting of owner furbished equipment if issues arise.
  • Collaborate with construction teams to bring lessons learned feedback into future technical specifications and project/portfolio sourcing strategy.
  • Manufacturing Quality Control - Coordinate with suppliers, testing laboratories, independent engineering firms, and other third parties to perform performance and extended reliability testing of products.
  • Track supplier production for assigned construction projects.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Relevant bachelor’s degree in engineering, physical sciences, or related technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in the renewable energy industry and demonstrated interest in the field.
  • Understanding of product design, plant design, manufacturing processes, and general PV plant construction.
  • Domestic travel required.
  • Driver’s license required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a relevant physical science discipline is a plus.
  • Data analysis and visualization skills.
  • Familiarity with energy modeling software including PVSyst is a plus.
  • Experience performing quality audits is a plus.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple deliverables and projects concurrently.
  • Excellent verbal, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Desire to work in a dynamic environment alongside people with multiple interests and backgrounds.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Base Pay $70,000.00 - $95,000.00 USD
