Job summary

Invenergy LLC is seeking a Project Engineer (Renewable Engineering) to support development and technical design of utility-scale solar projects in North America. The role is based at our downtown Chicago, IL office with a hybrid schedule (in-office Mon-Thu, remote Fri when feasible).

The candidate will analyze project constraints, prepare and optimize layouts, assess resource data, and support permitting, financing, and stakeholder interactions across multiple projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical discipline.
  • 4+ years of engineering or related technical discipline experience.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Define project constraints and buildable area considering existing infrastructure, topography, hydrology, and subsurface ground conditions.
  • Prepare conceptual project layouts and optimize layouts to maximize project value.
  • Analyze meteorological datasets and apply long-term correlation to assess project resource characteristics.
  • Estimate project annual energy production, energy uncertainty, energy probability values, and time-based production profiles.
  • Conduct site visits, engage in landowner meetings and community outreach, and participate in monthly construction meetings.
  • Assist with permitting efforts at federal, state, county, and local levels; support proposal preparation and financing responses; interface with PM, electrical engineering, and operations teams.

Invenergy follows a hybrid schedule, working in office Monday through Thursday and remotely on Fridays if work permits. This position will be open for application for at least 3 calendar days from the posting date. Position Overview

The Project Engineer (Renewable Engineering) will perform engineering activities to support project development and assist with the technical design and evaluation of utility‑scale solar projects in Invenergy’s target markets. This position is based at Invenergy's office in downtown Chicago, IL.

Responsibilities
  • Define project constraints and buildable area considering existing infrastructure, topography, hydrology, and subsurface ground conditions
  • Prepare conceptual project layouts.
  • Optimize layouts to maximize project value.
  • Analyze available meteorological datasets and apply long-term correlation to assess project resource characteristics
  • Estimate project annual energy production, energy uncertainty, energy probability values, and time-based production profiles
  • Conduct site visits to assess site suitability, participate in landowner meetings and community outreach events, and participate in monthly construction meetings.
  • Assist with federal, state, county, and local permitting efforts
  • Support the preparation of project sales proposals
  • Support project financing by responding to lender and independent engineer due diligence questions
  • Interface with the Project Management, Project Electrical Engineering, and Operations teams leading up to and through project commercial operations
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or related technical discipline
  • 4+ years of engineering or related technical discipline experience
  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree is a plus.
  • Renewable Engineering experience is a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to multi-task and manage deliverables for multiple projects at a time
  • Excellent verbal, writing, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated interest in renewable energy
  • Desire to work in a dynamic environment alongside people with multiple interests and backgrounds
  • Familiarity with resource and energy modeling software including PVsyst and SAM
  • Familiarity with site design tools including AutoCAD and GIS software
  • Knowledge of meteorological data sources, long term correlation methods, and other statistical analysis
  • Knowledge of energy project economics and familiarity with concepts such as NPV, IRR and LCOE
Base Pay

Base Pay $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 USD Annual Bonus: 20% - 30% The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Invenergy considers a number of factors when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education and skills. In addition to base pay, the total annual compensation package may also include eligibility to participate in our bonus program(s) which are designed to reward individual and company performance.
