Job summary

HBK is seeking an Applications Engineer in Chatsworth, CA to work closely with customers and the Dytran engineering team. You will help select accelerometers, sensors, and instrumentation, while defining requirements for new or modified products addressing market needs.

You will engage in lab testing, data analysis, and prepare engineering documentation, guides, and informative articles to support Sales and Marketing teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or related engineering field.
• 0–2 years of engineering experience; internships welcome.
• Ability to read and interpret technical specs, drawings, and test data.
• Hands-on laboratory environment; comfortable with lab work and documentation.

Primary Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities As an Applications Engineer, you will work closely with Dytran customers to understand their measurement applications and assist in selecting appropriate sensor and instrumentation solutions from Dytran's product portfolio. You will also work with customers and the Dytran Engineering Design Team to define requirements for new or modified sensor products that address emerging customer and market needs. The Applications Engineer serves as a technical liaison between Engineering, Sales, and our customers. Responsibilities include supporting technical inquiries, assisting with New Product Requests (NPRs), coordinating prototype activities, providing development updates, and communicating customer feedback to Engineering for continuous product improvement. In addition to supporting external customers, the Applications Engineer will participate in laboratory testing and product evaluation, prepare technical reports and engineering documentation, develop operating and quick-start guides, and assist with technical content for Sales and Marketing.

• Support technical interactions between current and potential customers, Engineering, and Sales.
• Review customer measurement applications and assist with the selection and application of accelerometers, pressure sensors, force sensors, and associated instrumentation.
• Prepare written technical explanations, data analyses, application notes, test reports, and engineering documentation for internal and external customers.
• Conduct laboratory testing, sensor evaluation, troubleshooting, and data analysis.
• Assist with the development of test setups and execution of engineering evaluations.
• Provide technical updates to management and other team members regarding customer inquiries, New Product Requests, prototype development, testing results, and customer feedback.
• Prepare operating guides, quick-start guides, technical articles, product information, sales presentations, and case studies.
• Assist with the development of product requirements and New Product Requests based on customer needs and technical feasibility.
• Coordinate with Design Engineering during the development and evaluation of new or modified sensor products.
• Conduct market research on competitive products and emerging technologies and prepare product comparison matrices to support Sales and Engineering.
• Analyze existing applications and markets to identify potential customers and new applications for Dytran products.
• Participate in customer meetings, product demonstrations, trade shows, and technical conferences.
• Develop increasing technical ownership of customer applications and Dytran sensor technologies as experience is gained.

Professional Qualifications Required

Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. 0–2 years of engineering experience. Relevant internships, co-op experience, university projects, laboratory experience, or engineering team activities are welcome. Fundamental understanding of mechanical and/or electrical engineering principles. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply engineering fundamentals to real-world technical problems. Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings, test data, and other engineering information. Ability to communicate technical information clearly in both written and verbal form. Comfortable working in a hands-on engineering and laboratory environment Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and common engineering software tools. Ability to work onsite at the Dytran facility in Chatsworth, CA.

Preferred Qualifications

The following experience is preferred but not required: Coursework, internship, project, or laboratory experience involving vibration, dynamics, instrumentation, signal processing, data acquisition, controls, electronics, or mechanical testing. Familiarity with accelerometers, pressure sensors, force sensors, strain gauges, or other measurement technologies. Experience with oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems, signal generators, multimeters, shakers, or other laboratory test equipment. Familiarity with MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, SolidWorks, or similar engineering and analysis tools. Experience with engineering drawings, CAD models, or basic mechanical design. Internship or project experience in aerospace, automotive, defense, manufacturing, test and measurement, or instrumentation. Interest in customer-facing engineering and technical problem-solving.

Ability to interface professionally with individuals across different technical disciplines and levels of experience. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with an interest in understanding and solving customer problems. Ability to explain technical subjects clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple technical assignments and priorities. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a cross-functional engineering team.

Compensation

The pay range for this position is $80,000 to $85,000 annually plus 10% bonus. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to the individual's qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as physical work location within the state.

Compensation
