Job summary

Siemens Energy is seeking an Applications Engineer (AE) for Modernizations and Upgrades to develop technical solutions for package and controls upgrades on Aeroderivative Gas Turbine fleets. You will validate requirements, craft solutions, assess risks, and coordinate with stakeholders throughout the bid process and handover to execution.

You will travel to sites, interact with customers and internal teams, and drive continuous improvement in the bid and project support functions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of controls or mechanical engineering experience.
• Experience interpreting engineering/equipment specifications.
• Ability to convey complex engineering concepts clearly.
• Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Experience with aeroderivative gas turbines is highly desired.

Responsibilities

• Define overall technical scope for upgrades (engine, package, controls).
• Develop cost budgets for technical scopes; obtain vendor quotes.
• Identify technical risks and mitigation plans for bid phase.
• Provide technical comments to customers and support clarifications.

The Applications Engineer (AE) for Modernizations and Upgrades is responsible for developing the technical solution for package and controls upgrades for the Aeroderivative Gas Turbine fleet within customer proposals. The AE is responsible for validating project requirements, develop the solution, identify potential technical risks to the project, developing project cost budget, receive technical approvals, participate in technical clarifications with customer and support technical handover to project execution. This individual will be an integral part of the bid team and is expected to interface with various stakeholders such as Customers, Regional Sales team, Authorized Project Manager (Sales)/APMs, Project Managers, Project Lead Engineers, Key Experts, Tech support, Field Service, and Project Engineering.

How You’ll Make an Impact

• Define the overall technical scope for requested/proposed upgrades, including but not limited to Engine, Package Mechanical, Package Electrical, Controls scopes and associated drawings updates for the proposal.
• Develop the cost budget for identified technical scope and if required, obtain major equipment vendor quotes by providing the necessary engineering specifications.
• Identify, quantify and develop mitigation plans for technical risks during the bid phase to achieve a successful execution by the project team.
• Provide technical comments & exceptions to customer specifications and support clarifications meetings as needed. Responsible for technical handover of won proposals to execution team
• Travel to customer sites as needed to perform site surveys, assessments, customer meetings, and possibly participate in safety discussions
• Drive improvement initiatives within the team

What You Bring

• Bachelor of Science in an Engineering Field or Engineering Technology (or equivalent experience considered). 5+ years’ applicable experience with Controls or Mechanical Engineering in the oil and gas/power generation industry.
• Experience in interpretation and writing of engineering/equipment specifications.
• Ability to communicate complex engineering concepts to diverse parties with varying technical backgrounds
• Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite including the following: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Experience in aeroderivative gas turbines is highly desired. Certifications such BOSIET/CA-EBS/MIST/H2S are a plus. Experience with digital tools like Power BI are a plus.
• Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
