Group One Trading, LP is seeking an Application Support Specialist in Chicago, IL to ensure the reliability of its proprietary electronic options trading platform. You will monitor production, diagnose issues, manage incidents, and work directly with traders and developers to keep systems market-ready.

The role emphasizes learning trading concepts, proactive problem solving, and documentation, with opportunities to obtain a Series 57 and grow within a fast-paced trading environment.

Qualifications

Application Support Specialist

Location: Chicago, IL 60605

Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000

Base salary is only one part of Group One Trading's total compensation, which includes an annual discretionary bonus.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Our Application Support Specialists are responsible for the reliability and day-to-day operation of our proprietary electronic options trading platform. They work directly with traders and developers to monitor production, diagnose issues, manage incidents, and ensure our systems are ready for the market every day.

THE SKILLSET

A broad, multi-platform skill set is what we look for, but there will be plenty of learning opportunities no matter how many of these skills you bring in with you. We also encourage applicants with various levels of technical backgrounds to apply, such as Dev-Ops or Software Development experience. Our ideal Application Support Specialist has:

• Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a technical role
• Experience with system monitoring tools & techniques
• Deep technical troubleshooting skills of proprietary software that runs on Windows Servers
• Passionate about learning trading concepts, financial instruments, and market data feeds
• Proactive problem-solving mindset, with the ability to suggest improvements and enhancements to systems and processes
• Ability to effectively document support processes, production issues in JIRA, third-party software usage, and help contribute to and maintain wiki-based documentation
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with developers, users, and cross-functional teams

Experience with scripting/programming languages and tools like Python, C#, or PowerShell would be a plus! Are you self-motivated and detail-oriented? WHAT TO EXPECT AS AN APPLICATION SUPPORT SPECIALIST

Within 1 month

you complete your initial orientation as well as become familiar with our environment, our infrastructure, and our business. You begin a comprehensive, cross-functional training plan to learn more about every aspect of our firm.

Within 3 months

you will be proficient in system monitoring, proactively identifying potential issues in the proprietary trading system and responding effectively to incidents. You will study for and obtain a Series 57 Securities Trader Representative qualification, enabling you to support our most sensitive trading components. You will begin to gain confidence in performing software maintenance tasks, troubleshooting basic networking issues, and providing user computer setup support. Additionally, your collaborative skills and proactive problem-solving approach will be evident as you actively engage with teams, contribute to documentation efforts, and propose improvements to enhance system stability and performance.

Within 6 months

you will independently monitor and maintain the proprietary trading system, all while demonstrating a deep understanding of its details. You will have gained proficiency in troubleshooting complex issues and provide timely and effective support to users. Additionally, you will begin to take on a leadership role in collaborative efforts, contributing significantly to proposing system enhancements, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
