Job description

Sensient is growing!! Come join Sensient as an Application Scientist II within our Food Color Business unit. This exciting and dynamic customer-facing role will be responsible for the development of a variety of color formulations across an expansive portfolio of food and beverage applications. This position requires owning the product lifecycle from benchtop to production, collaborating with other teams to ensure efficiencies, and utilizing internal resources to ensure customer needs are met.

What You’ll Do:

  • Support commercial team by communicating directly with customers to identify success for color projects. This includes identifying goals, timing, and parameters per specific customer and customer pipeline. Applications include (but are not limited to) confections, pet food, baked items, processed food, beverage, and dairy.
  • Build project outlines, interpret results, and write detail-oriented reports or presentations to present to both internal and external technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Work to improve and troubleshoot formulations based on a variety of parameters including stability, performance in internal and external production, extension of shelf life, and changes in regulatory.
  • Present seminars and training sessions on both synthetic and natural color systems to customers as well as trade associations.
  • Work internally with other departments (quality control, production, regulatory, supply chain) as well as other Sensient divisions to execute results.

What You’ll Bring:

  • University degree (B.S. or higher) in Food Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related scientific discipline is required with 2+-years of experience
  • Adaptability, learning agility, collaborative skills, time management, planning and organizational skills are a must. Strong intrinsically motivated mindset, curiosity, creative thinking and entrepreneurial mindset are a must.
  • Excellent communication skills. Experience in working both autonomously as well as in a team are a must.
  • Prior general color conception knowledge and/or the use of food lab and pilot scale equipment (spectrophotometer, colorimeter, extruder, panning equipment, etc.) is a strong advantage.
  • Travel domestically, if needed, up to 10-20%.
