Qualifications

Responsibilities:

Work closely with scientists, engineers, and other technical experts to communicate complex ideas in a way that a technical and non-technical audience can understand.

  • Reviews technical reports and proposals and recommends revisions or changes in approaches, scope, format, and risk management.
  • Design, plan, and perform field exploration, testing, and instrumentation programs.
  • Complete Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments.
  • Review, evaluation, and interpretation of environmental or other technical data and prepare summary reports.
  • Complete basic testing and deliver samples to outside labs.
  • Participate in the development of scopes of service and prepare budgets and proposals.
  • Interact and communicate with clients, vendors, and staff at all levels in a professional manner.
  • Support business development and marketing activities, including preparation of cost proposals and presentations to existing and prospective clients.
  • Follow Shannon & Wilsons Quality Assurance policy.
  • Follow and promote Shannon & Wilsons Health & Safety and Loss Prevention policies and procedures.
  • Maintain corporate standards for report preparation and style.
  • Manage multiple simultaneous projects and deadlines and adjust priorities based on management direction and program deadlines.
  • Travel and year-round field work, particularly in the months of April through October, with working hours more than 40 hours per week and weekends, as needed (compensation provided for the additional time).
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Requirements

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Hydrology, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Natural Science or other Physical Science Degree; Master's Degree preferred.
  • 0-6 years of experience
  • Experience with mathematical terms and equations.
  • Basic computer skills: Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Typically, depending on an applicant's education, experience, other qualifications they possess, if they are a fit for the company and local office culture, and the current business needs, an Entry-Level Environmental Scientist typically would be placed at a Shannon & Wilson Professional I, II, or III level.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training
  • Knowledge of RCRA, CERCLA, OSHA and other federal regulations.
  • Experience sampling soil, groundwater, and other media at contaminated sites.
  • Experience in hazardous waste and hazardous materials management.
  • Experience with environmental remediation technologies.
  • Experience on federal projects (HTRW, AFCEE, etc.).
  • Experience with statistical analyses.
  • Experience with fate and transport modeling.
  • Other desirable skills and training, based on previous experience.
  • Advanced computer skills: gINT, Access, ArcGIS, AutoCAD.
