Responsibilities

  • Quality-check Miami’s OCR software to standardize and review transcripts.
  • Perform complete review of each application, verifying GPA, test scores, etc.
  • Analyze and score the strength of the high school curriculum.
  • Review contextual factors in the application.
  • Record curriculum scores and details about essays and recommendations.
  • Recommend tentative admission decisions.
  • Escalate issues to senior staff when needed.
  • Notify supervisors of schedule or benchmark changes.

Job Description Summary

Outside readers are trained by Miami University Office of Admission staff to review applications for first-year undergraduate admission to Miami. This mission‑critical position is essential to ensuring that the ~43,000 applications Miami receives annually are reviewed in a thorough, fair, and timely manner. Only applicants with a permanent address in Ohio, Kentucky, or Indiana are eligible for this position.

Job Description Essential Job Duties
  • Quality-check Miami’s AI‑powered OCR software to assist in the standardization and review of high school transcripts.
  • Performing a complete review of each application, checking the accuracy of the student academic data (GPA, standardized test scores, etc.) and reading letters of recommendation, essays, and all other submitted materials.
  • Analyzing and scoring the strength of the student’s high school curriculum.
  • Reviewing contextual factors in the application.
  • Recording the curriculum score and details about the essays, extracurricular activities, and recommendations.
  • Recommending a tentative admission decision.
  • Escalating applications to senior admission staff if any concerns or issues arise.
  • Keeping supervisors apprised of any anticipated changes to work schedule or difficulty meeting established benchmarks (see Minimum Qualifications below); meeting milestones toward training completion (training milestones will be communicated in writing after hire)
Minimum Requirements
  • Home address in Ohio, Kentucky, or Indiana
  • Experience in admission, enrollment management, or similar
  • Bachelor’s degree or 8 years of application review experience
  • Proven familiarity with higher education CRMs such as Slate
  • Ability to read at a pace of six applications per hour for each hour worked
  • During October and November, readers must commit to 15-28 hours per week. (Note: hours per week before October and after November may fluctuate. However, the 6 application/hour pace will remain in place.)
