Base pay range

$150,000.00/yr - $165,000.00/yr

Application Operations Team Lead (JOB-4496)

Location: REMOTE (Excludes residents of CA and NY)

Terms: Direct-Hire

Salary Range: $150,000- $165,000 (Based on Experience)

Clearance Requirement: U.S. Citizenship (minimum 2 years) and eligibility to obtain a Public Trust clearance

Capstone IT is partnering with a leading federal IT solutions provider to hire a hands-on Application Operations Team Lead for a fully remote, direct hire opportunity. This position leads 24/7 infrastructure and application operations for a large-scale federal environment supporting hundreds of mission-critical systems deployed across AWS, Azure, and hybrid environments.

You will manage a team of 8–10 DevOps and Senior DevOps Engineers supporting a complex application portfolio, including CI/CD pipelines, production deployments, and runtime monitoring. The environment supports over 800 developers and is undergoing a major modernization effort involving full cloud migration to AWS. The ideal candidate brings a 60/40 blend of technical execution and leadership, strong experience in SRE and ITIL frameworks, and the ability to drive operational excellence in high-change, high-deployment settings.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage 24/7 application and infrastructure operations supporting hundreds of mission-critical systems.
• Oversee CI/CD pipelines and runtime environments supporting 800+ developers.
• Manage production releases, including dozens to hundreds of monthly deployments across cloud and hybrid environments.
• Direct daily monitoring of infrastructure and application health, ensuring system uptime and production support responsiveness.
• Lead incident response, problem management, root cause analysis, and vulnerability remediation efforts.
• Deliver service-level reporting, incident and problem management, CMDB updates, and vulnerability management across systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering, platform, and delivery teams to drive system reliability and scalability.
• Deliver reporting and metrics aligned to SLAs, SRE benchmarks, and cost-performance targets.
• Ensure compliance with ITIL processes, federal operational standards, and service-level agreements.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or 4+ additional years of experience in lieu of degree).
• 10+ years of experience in infrastructure or application operations roles, with 2+ years in a leadership capacity.
• Proven success operating and supporting large, distributed application portfolios with high volumes of change and service demands.
• Expertise in CI/CD tools, SRE frameworks, and enterprise operations tooling.
• Strong understanding of ITIL practices, monitoring strategies, and public cloud operations (AWS, Azure).
• Demonstrated success managing large teams and driving service-level accountability.
• Strong interpersonal skills focused on team building, conflict resolution, and stakeholder collaboration.
• U.S. Citizenship (minimum 2 years) and ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Preferred:

• Previous experience supporting federal agencies or working in a federal consulting capacity.
• Certifications in DevOps, SRE, ITIL, or public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
