Job description

Application Engineer - Large Projects & Strategic Infrastructure
Location: United States
Welcome to the Team

Join Nexans' Large Projects team and help support the rapid growth of some of the most ambitious electrical infrastructure developments in the United States. Our immediate focus is the rapidly expanding Data Center market, including hyperscale and colocation developments, with a broader strategic focus on semiconductor facilities, battery gigafactories and other mission-critical infrastructure projects.

As Nexans strengthens its technical presence in North America, you will play an important role in helping customers develop safe, reliable, efficient and sustainable electrical infrastructure. Working alongside our Global and Key Account Managers, engineering teams and product experts, you'll bring together deep electrical engineering expertise and customer engagement to influence major projects from their earliest design stages.

Getting a Flying Start

As an Application Engineer - Large Projects & Strategic Infrastructure, you will become a trusted technical partner to customers and to our commercial teams. You'll work directly with end users, EPCs, engineering consultancies, contractors and other key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle - from early concept and specification through design, project execution, installation and commissioning. You'll provide first-level technical engineering support, independently addressing customer requirements through electrical calculations, cable selection and sizing, design and specification reviews, and technical optimization. For more complex requirements, you'll work closely with Nexans' specialist engineering, Product Management and R&D teams to develop the right solution.

This is not purely a design-engineering position. You'll combine strong technical capability with customer engagement, helping influence specifications, solve engineering challenges and position Nexans as a trusted technical partner on major strategic projects.

How You Make an Impact
  • Provide technical engineering expertise for major Data Center and strategic infrastructure projects across the United States and North America.
  • Partner with end users, hyperscalers, EPCs, engineering consultancies and contractors to understand project requirements and develop appropriate technical solutions.
  • Perform and support LV/MV cable sizing, selection and optimization, electrical calculations, design reviews and technical validation.
  • Review and interpret single-line diagrams, electrical specifications, cable schedules, drawings and bills of materials.
  • Influence project specifications through early technical engagement and spec-in activities, helping position Nexans solutions during the concept and design phases.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize solutions in terms of electrical performance, reliability, installation, sustainability and overall project value.
  • Provide technical expertise for tenders, RFQs, customer presentations and complex strategic project pursuits.
  • Deliver technical presentations, workshops and training to customers, engineering partners and internal commercial teams.
  • Provide technical guidance during project execution, installation and commissioning when required.
  • Work closely with Sales, Key Account Management, Product Management, R&D and specialist engineering teams to address complex customer requirements.
  • Capture customer insights and emerging technical requirements to support future product, solution and digital engineering development.
Your Starting Points
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Significant relevant experience in electrical engineering, ideally gained on complex, large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of LV/MV electrical distribution systems, power distribution architecture and electrical design principles.
  • Hands-on experience performing or reviewing electrical calculations, technical specifications, single-line diagrams and electrical distribution designs.
  • Experience gained within an EPC, engineering consultancy, electrical equipment manufacturer/OEM, contractor or comparable major-project engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant US electrical codes and standards, including NEC/NFPA and applicable IEEE standards.
  • Experience using electrical engineering or calculation software such as ETAP, CYMCAP or equivalent.
  • Strong customer-facing and stakeholder-management skills, with the credibility to engage directly with senior engineers and technical decision-makers.
  • Ability to translate complex engineering requirements into practical technical solutions and communicate them effectively to both technical and commercial audiences.
  • Professional fluency in English.
  • Willingness to travel regularly across the United States and North America, with international travel when required.
Nice to Have
  • Experience supporting hyperscale or colocation Data Center projects or other mission-critical facilities.
  • Experience with semiconductor facilities, battery gigafactories, advanced manufacturing or other complex electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Practical knowledge of power cable systems, cable selection, sizing and applications.
  • Experience working for or closely with cable manufacturers or other electrical equipment manufacturers.
  • Experience with technical prescription or spec-in activities, particularly engaging with consultants, EPCs and end users during early project design.
  • Knowledge of IEC or other international electrical standards in addition to US codes.
  • Experience with cable-sizing software, digital engineering tools or BIM environments.
  • Experience working in an international or global organisation.
