Job summary

AVL North America is seeking an Application Engineer II to join the Plymouth, Michigan team. This role supports testbed commissioning for engines, powertrains, emissions, batteries, inverters, eMotors, and eAxles, with ~40% travel.

Requires a minimum of 3 years in the automotive testing field, strong electrical aptitude, and excellent communication skills. On-site collaboration with a PM to manage cost and schedule is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent.
  • Master’s degree in engineering or equivalent preferred.
  • 3-5+ years in a relevant field.
  • Experience with test automation equipment preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical processes.
  • Read and understand electrical and mechanical schematics/drawings.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with PC operation, MS Windows, and networking.

Responsibilities

  • Act as liaison and company representative with customers.
  • Commission test systems including setup and troubleshooting.
  • Implement and tune complex control loops.
  • Integrate auxiliary equipment into test systems.
  • Set up monitoring and control of safeties.
  • Create commissioning documentation.
  • Provide training on system applications.
  • Obtain customer sign-off.
  • Write and implement complex custom tests.
  • Provide sales technical support.
  • Provide project engineering technical support.
  • Help desk consultations.
  • Develop and present advanced training.
  • Technical research.
  • Travel as required.
  • Other tasks as assigned

Job Description AVL Test Systems Inc. is looking for an Application Engineer II to join the Plymouth, Michigan team. This position will support AVL’s testbed commissioning activities, including but not limited to engine, powertrain, emissions, battery, inverter, eMotor, and eAxle testing.

Job Description AVL Test Systems Inc. is looking for an Application Engineer II to join the Plymouth, Michigan team. This position will support AVL’s testbed commissioning activities, including but not limited to engine, powertrain, emissions, battery, inverter, eMotor, and eAxle testing. Qualified candidates must possess a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, including system and component level experience. The role requires expert level system knowledge and offers the opportunity to work across a broad and fast-developing portfolio of test applications. The Application Engineer II will design and integrate subsystems while commissioning test systems to meet complex testing requirements. In addition, the role will troubleshoot complex problems and develop effective solutions. Qualified candidates must have experience in the automotive industry, along with strong electrical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting skills. Candidates must be able to take charge of projects once on-site and drive them to completion while working with a Project Manager to manage cost and schedule estimates. The Application Engineer II will have ownership of large, complex test systems and must demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills. Travel: Approximately 40% Location: Candidates should be located in the Southeast Michigan area. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Qualifications/Skills
  • Bachelors’ degree in engineering or equivalent
  • Master’s degree in engineering or equivalent preferred
  • 3-5+ years’ experience in relevant field required
  • Experience in test automation equipment preferred
  • In depth understanding of electrical and mechanical processes
  • Expertise related to testing methods and applications
  • Able to read and understand electrical and mechanical schematics and drawings
  • Strong software adaption and modification skills preferred
  • Background in testing (engine / emissions / battery / eMotor / eAxle)
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of PC operation, structure, MS Windows, and computer networking require
