Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with applicable coursework or experience.
  • Knowledge of wire conductors and insulators, current flow, and electric circuits.
  • Knowledge of transmission line theory and test methods for high-speed data cables.
  • Effective technical writing for internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work within or lead cross-functional teams to solve engineering problems.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain material and product specifications, bills of material, and manufacturing instructions for existing product platforms.
  • Maintain and improve design standards for existing products; implement improvements for quality, cost, and efficiency.
  • Review external specifications and document requirements to maintain product compliance.
  • Provide technical support to Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Quality regarding product design and testing.
  • Participate in design reviews and corrective actions for production products to resolve design/workmanship issues.
  • Design and develop high-speed data cables for new business opportunities.
  • Work cross-functionally to develop new product platforms and extensions.
  • Understand industry and customer specs to inform development decisions.
  • Participate in customer meetings to capture input for current and future products.
  • Learn application engineering guidance for data transmission cables and respond to customer inquiries.
  • Create test reports for customers and qualifying agencies to maintain product approvals.
  • Assist with tasks/projects assigned by manager or senior management.
  • Coordinate with Engineering team to share workload.

Application Engineer - Electrical

Judd Wire Inc., a Sumitomo Electric Group company, is looking for an Application Engineer - Electrical for our Turners Falls, MA office. This candidate will join the Design and Development team, focusing on high-speed data cables across markets. This engineer will be a member of cross-functional teams developing new products and will maintain and improve standards for existing products and product platforms. The engineer will work within the company to identify problems and implement solutions associated with product performance, design, or materials. The engineer will also communicate with customers to answer questions about product application and performance. Hiring Range: $72,631.20 - $99,867.90 per year (exempt)

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain material and product specifications, bills of material, and manufacturing instructions for existing product platforms.
  • Maintain and improve design standards for existing products. Evaluate and implement improvements to products and instructions to achieve quality, cost, and efficiency improvements.
  • Review external specifications and document requirements to maintain product compliance.
  • Provide technical support to Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Quality concerning product design and testing.
  • Participate in design review and corrective action meetings for production products to resolve problems in design and workmanship.
  • Design and develop high-speed data cables in support of new business opportunities.
  • Work as member of cross-functional team to develop new product platforms and platform extensions.
  • Understand relevant industry and customer specifications and existing products to inform development decisions.
  • Participate in customer meetings to understand customer input for current and future products.
  • Learn application engineering guidance for data transmission cables and provide answers to customers requesting standard information.
  • Create test reports for customers and qualifying agencies to maintain product approvals.
  • Assist with tasks and/or projects assigned by direct manager or senior management.
  • Perform other similar duties as required within the department, or as assigned by manager.
  • Coordinate with Engineering team to share supporting task workload as appropriate.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or degree in other Engineering field with applicable coursework or experience.
  • Knowledge of basic principles of wire conductors and insulators, current flow, and electric circuits.
  • Knowledge in transmission line theory and test methods used for high-speed data cables.
  • Effective technical writing skills for internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work within or lead cross-functional teams to solve engineering problems.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in the wire and cable industry or related field.
  • Knowledge in specifications and product testing protocols for data cables.
  • Demonstrated ability to associate test results for high-speed data cables with the details of the materials and construction of the cable under test.
