Job summary

LEX Innovations in Shelton, CT is seeking an Application Engineer to design and configure power distribution products using our configurable design platforms. You will translate customer requirements into manufacturable, compliant solutions and generate detailed drawings and BOMs.

You will collaborate with Sales, Product Management, and customers, ensure UL/NEC compliance, maintain records in our data systems, and support platform improvements, design reviews, builds, and testing.

Responsibilities

• Design and configure power distribution products using Lex’s configurable design platforms.
• Collaborate with Sales, Product Management, and customers to translate needs into manufacturable solutions.
• Generate detailed drawings, wiring diagrams, and BOMs for manufacturing and procurement.
• Provide technical support to customers and internal teams regarding product capabilities and integrations.
• Ensure designs comply with UL, NEC, and other safety standards.
• Maintain accurate records of configurations and designs within Lex’s data management systems.
• Support continuous improvement of Lex’s configurable platforms and processes to enhance efficiency.
• Participate in design reviews and address feedback to improve product functionality.
• Assist with builds and functional testing to validate designs and ensure quality.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily including the following:

• Design and configure custom and semi-custom power distribution products using Lex’s configurable design platforms to meet customer specifications and application requirements.
• Collaborate with Sales, Product Management, and customers to understand application needs and translate them into manufacturable, compliant solutions.
• Generate detailed drawings, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials (BOMs) to support manufacturing and procurement for customer orders.
• Provide technical support to customers and internal teams regarding product capabilities, system integration, and application considerations.
• Ensure designs align with UL, NEC, and other applicable standards for safety and compliance.
• Maintain accurate records of configurations and customer-specific designs within Lex’s data management systems.
• Support the continuous improvement of Lex’s configurable design platforms and processes to enhance efficiency and customer responsiveness.
• Participate in design reviews, fielding feedback to improve product functionality, serviceability, and manufacturability.
• Assist with builds and functional testing when required to validate designs and ensure quality.
• Abilities and Skills Required:
  • Ability to interpret customer requirements and translate them into practical, manufacturable designs within Lex’s configurable platforms.
  • Proficiency in CAD for creating clear and accurate drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • Solid understanding of electrical and mechanical design principles for power distribution equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for both internal and external interactions.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to adapt to evolving customer needs and business priorities.
  • Collaborative mindset, working effectively with Sales, Production, and Engineering teams to deliver high-quality customer solutions.
• Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field required.
  • 2+ years of experience in an engineering role, preferably with exposure to custom or configurable product design.
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software required.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
  • Familiarity with electrical systems, wiring practices, and enclosure design required.
  • Experience with UL and NEC compliance for electrical assemblies is preferred.
  • Customer-facing or technical sales support experience is a plus.
