Job summary

AMSC in Queensbury, NY is seeking an experienced CAD Engineer to create detailed 2D drawings and 3D models for power quality and power systems equipment. You will develop documentation, BOMs, and wiring diagrams while applying GD&T to ensure manufacturability and compliance.

You will work with electrical and mechanical engineers, review ECR/ECO changes, and support prototypes and design validation to meet UL/IEEE/NEC standards. A Bachelor’s in engineering and 3+ years CAD experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, engineering technology, or related field.
• 3+ years CAD design experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (fabrication, machining, assembly).
• Knowledge of GD&T and drafting standards.

Responsibilities

• Support new product development, product enhancements, and custom-engineered solutions for utility and industrial customers.
• Develop detailed 2D drawings and 3D models using CAD software (AutoCAD and AutoCAD 3D).
• Create fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, and BOMs.
• Apply GD&T principles to ensure accurate tolerancing.
• Review and revise drawings based on engineering change requests (ECR/ECO).
• Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to translate design concepts into production-ready documentation.
• Support prototype builds and design validation testing.
• Ensure compliance with industry codes and standards (UL, IEEE, NEC as applicable).
• Assist in root cause analysis for design related production issues.
• Maintain drawing revisions and configuration control within PLM/ERP systems.
• Ensure accurate documentation of product specifications and revisions.
• Support internal and external audits related to engineering documentation.
• Recommend design improvements to enhance manufacturability and reduce costs.
• Identify opportunities to standardize components and assemblies.
