Job summary

Sterling Engineering is seeking an experienced Applications Engineer - Milling to provide technical applications support, customer training, and machine demonstrations for CNC milling equipment. The role collaborates with customers, dealers, and sales to showcase capabilities and optimize machining results.

You will perform test cuts, run demonstrations, and develop training materials while staying current on milling technologies.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in high-speed milling, tool making, precision machining, or related manufacturing environment.
• Equivalent combinations of technical education and hands-on industry experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Train customers, dealers, and internal personnel on safe and effective CNC machine operation.
• Perform test cuts to evaluate machine performance and identify improvement opportunities.
• Conduct time studies, machine demonstrations, and application testing.
• Coordinate pre-sale demonstrations, trade shows, and open houses, including equipment setup and live demos.
• Work with Sales to provide timely technical and applications support.
• Review RFQs and turnkey system requirements to evaluate feasibility.
• Provide technical applications support to customers and troubleshoot machining or process issues.
• Recommend machining strategies, tooling, equipment, and process improvements.
• Maintain demonstration machines, fixtures, tooling and equipment in good condition.
• Develop technical applications documentation, training materials, and reports.
• Stay current on new CNC machining technologies, equipment, tooling, and industry developments.
• Participate in technical meetings, seminars, and training sessions.
• Perform additional applications-related responsibilities as needed.

This position works closely with customers, dealers, and sales teams to demonstrate machine capabilities, optimize machining applications, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure customers are getting the best performance from their equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and conduct training programs for customers, dealers, and internal personnel on the safe and effective operation of CNC machines and equipment.
• Perform test cuts to evaluate machine performance and identify opportunities to improve machining results.
• Conduct time studies, machine demonstrations, and application testing.

• Work closely with Sales to provide timely technical and applications support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferred.
• 3-5 years of experience in high-speed milling, tool making, precision machining, or a closely related manufacturing environment.
• Equivalent combinations of technical education and hands-on industry experience will be considered.
