Architect: We are seeking an experienced Application Architect to help define and advance the technical direction of critical enterprise applications and platforms. This position will work across business and technology teams to design scalable solutions, modernize existing systems, and ensure that application architecture supports both current operational needs and long-term strategic objectives.
The environment includes a combination of legacy platforms, modern application technologies, cloud infrastructure, and integrated enterprise systems. The ideal candidate brings broad technical experience, strong architectural judgment, and the ability to influence teams and stakeholders without relying solely on formal authority.
What You’ll Do
- Establish the architecture, technical roadmap, and design approach for assigned enterprise applications and technology platforms.
- Partner with engineering, infrastructure, security, data, and business teams to translate complex requirements into practical technical solutions.
- Evaluate existing applications and identify opportunities for modernization, improved scalability, increased resiliency, and simplified support.
- Assess new technologies and architectural approaches through technical research, prototypes, and proof-of-concept initiatives.
- Provide architectural guidance across application environments that may include Java, .NET, RPG, APIs, middleware, and enterprise integration technologies.
- Design solutions that operate effectively across a combination of on-premise, virtualized, and cloud-based infrastructure.
- Work with application development teams to establish design patterns, integration approaches, and technical standards.
- Support modernization efforts involving legacy platforms and applications while maintaining stability of business-critical systems.
- Participate throughout the software development lifecycle, from early requirements and solution design through implementation and production deployment.
- Review proposed technical designs and help teams identify architectural risks, dependencies, scalability concerns, and security considerations.
- Develop and maintain architecture diagrams, technical standards, design documentation, and implementation guidelines.
- Mentor developers and technical team members on architecture principles and engineering best practices.
- Partner with project and product leadership to evaluate scope, technical complexity, dependencies, and delivery risks.
- Communicate the technical and business implications of architectural decisions to technology leaders and business stakeholders.
- Help shape longer-term technology strategy by evaluating emerging technologies and recommending where new capabilities can provide meaningful business value.
What You Need
- Significant experience in application architecture, software engineering, systems architecture, or enterprise application development.
- Strong knowledge of software architecture concepts, including design patterns, data structures, algorithms, integration patterns, and application scalability.
- Experience working within complex environments containing multiple application platforms and technology stacks.
- Hands-on familiarity with technologies such as Java, .NET, RPG, or comparable enterprise programming environments.
- Understanding of enterprise infrastructure concepts, including networking, operating systems, middleware, databases, security, and application integration.
- Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS or Microsoft Azure and hybrid-cloud architectures.
- Familiarity with APIs, service-oriented architectures, distributed systems, and enterprise integration approaches.
- Experience supporting legacy application modernization or platform transformation initiatives.
- Understanding of security, availability, performance, and resiliency considerations when designing enterprise applications.
- Financial services, banking, payments, or other highly regulated industry experience is preferred.
- Strong understanding of how technology initiatives connect to business objectives, operational requirements, and key performance indicators.
- Ability to evaluate complex technical problems and recommend solutions that balance short-term needs with long-term architecture strategy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, influence stakeholders, and lead technical decision-making across teams.
