Job summary

Navajo Tribal Utility Authority seeks an engineer to support design, construction, and operation of Electric, Natural Gas, Water/Wastewater, or Renewable systems on the Navajo Nation.

Responsibilities include developing construction plans, coordinating with contractors and agencies, and managing capital and emergency projects. The role requires a strong engineering background and project management focus, with emphasis on regulatory compliance and budgeting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in listed engineering fields.
  • 2-3 years of experience in Electric, Gas, Water/Wastewater, or Renewable Operations.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Computer Systems.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project Management, and Outlook).
  • EIT with Registration or PE desired.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Supports design, construction, and operation of Electric, Natural Gas, Water/Wastewater, or Renewable systems.
  • Develops construction plans, specifications, cost analyses, and contract docs.
  • Collaborates with contractors, consultants, developers, architects, and other departments.
  • Manages projects and supervises construction for capital, O&M, and emergencies.
  • Prepares engineering studies, reports, and plans.
  • Maintains system operations database information files.
  • Reviews reports and infrastructure designs from outside agencies.
  • Responds to district requests addressing system operations and maintenance issues.
  • Monitors regulatory compliance; prepares remedial plans and agency correspondence; tracks progress.
  • Conducts technical research to solve utility engineering problems.
  • Participates in public meetings and responds to inquiries/complaints.
  • Establishes design standards for transmission, distribution, and upgrades.
  • Assists in annual budgets for Capital and O&M; maintains reporting systems.
  • Identifies outside funding sources and tracks funding applications.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications Required
  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
  • Bachelor's Degree: Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Natural Gas Engineering, Renewable Engineering.
  • 2-3 years of experience in Electric, Gas, Water/Wastewater, or Renewable Operations.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Computer Systems.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project Management, and Outlook).
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) with Current Registration or Professional Engineer (PE) desired.
  • Requires a Valid Driver's License (subject to motor vehicle review).
Job Responsibilities and Performance Objectives
  • Performs varied engineering functions in support of the design, construction, and operation and maintenance of Electric, Natural Gas, Water/Wastewater, or Renewable systems.
  • Develops construction plans, specifications, cost analysis requests for proposals, and other contract documents.
  • Works collaboratively with various outside entities on projects, including contractors, consultants, developers, architects, engineering firms, and other departments or divisions.
  • Performs project management and construction supervision for capital, O&M, and emergency projects.
  • Prepares comprehensive special engineering studies, reports, and plans.
  • Develops and maintains system operations database information files.
  • Reviews reports, plans, and infrastructure design by outside agencies.
  • Responds to district requests to assist and address system operation and maintenance issues.
  • Monitors system operations for regulatory compliance, prepares remedial action plans, and responds to regulatory agency inquiries and correspondence. Tracks progress and prepares project update reports as required.
  • Performs technical research to develop solutions to engineering problems associated with a specific utility.
  • Participates in general public meetings and awareness programs, responding to outside agency requests, customer inquiries, and complaints.
  • Establishes standards for the overall design, including transmission, distribution, and modification or upgrading of specific utilities.
  • Participates in the preparation and administration of annual Capital and O&M budgets. Maintains budget and project status reporting systems.
  • Identifies outside funding sources and opportunities, provides information and data to complete funding application processes, and tracks funding application processes.
  • Performs related duties as required.
