Job Description:

Teaching faculty at Owens Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, development cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. The applicant will be responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the total affairs of the college. This position requires teaching undergraduates, and applicants must provide evidence of teaching potential specifically in the discipline of automotive technology.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • This position requires classroom and lab instruction in the discipline. The instructor must be knowledgeable in automotive technology in regards to engine repair, automatic transmissions/transaxle, manual drive train & axles, suspension & steering, brakes, electrical/electronic systems, heating & air conditioning, engine performance; and must provide high quality instruction. The instructor must have a demonstrated knowledge of and integration of appropriate practices of teaching to different learning styles.

  • This position requires the individual to have strong skills in the following:
    1. Written and oral communication.
    2. Problem-solving.
    3. Critical thinking.
    4. Computer operations.

  • This position requires the individual to have the ability to:
    2. Integrate a variety of methodologies in order to facilitate student learning.
    3. Understand the needs of community college students.
    4. Manage a classroom, including organizing and presenting material, designing lessons and activities that will facilitate student learning, and monitoring student behavior and performance.
    5. Follow instructions and meet deadlines.
    6. Recognize students’ strengths and weaknesses in the discipline and to provide feedback to students in such a way to facilitate their learning.
    7. Evaluate student work fairly using department guidelines.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare and deliver course materials in accordance to the course syllabi

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Up to one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school

  • Must meet one of the following:
    A.Industry Certification by ASE or Manufacturer in similar discipline.
    B.Baccalaureate degree and 2 years experience in discipline of instruction.
    C.Associates degree and 4 years experience in discipline of instruction.
    D.6 Years experience in discipline of instruction.
