Job description

Under the direction of the Manager, Maintenance Services for the Department of Facilities Services (DFS), this position will install, maintain, and repair a wide range of commercial appliances, including refrigeration units, ice machines, ovens, dishwashers and other kitchen or facility equipment in support of high-quality food and dining services on the Malibu campus.

Duties
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair commercial appliances and equipment. Respond to service calls in a timely, professional manner.
  • Perform routine maintenance to ensure optimal performance and prevent breakdowns.
  • Install new appliances according to manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and service recommendations in WebTMA. Communicate effectively with supervisors and stakeholders to explain issues, repairs, and maintenance tips.
  • Keep tools, parts, shop, and service vehicle organized and in good condition.
  • Stay updated on manufacturer training, industry standards, and new technologies.
  • Support the team and contribute to a culture of service, excellence, and safety while following all University safety and regulatory guidelines.
  • Manage work through standard TMA processes and Procedures. Manage materials, parts, and equipment needed for the appliances, including inventory tracking, record keeping, product research, and supply procurement, ensuring spare part availability in emergency situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Uphold university mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of experienceworking with refrigeration systems, electrical troubleshooting, gas appliances, food-service equipment, plumbing, controls, and manufacturer-specific diagnostics.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience in commercial refrigeration and knowledge of EPA Section 608 refrigerant handling.
  • Experience with electrical diagnostics, gas‑fired appliances, steam systems, and electronic controls.
  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System, preferably TMA or WebTMA.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Analytical and problem‑solving skills to successfully resolve issues.
  • Ability to understand plans, design specifications, and manufacturers' instructions and recommendations to ensure their proper installation, and remedy issues.
  • Strong English written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must consistently project a professional demeanor and positive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a skilled and semi‑skilled workforce, and ability to function well under pressure.
  • Support and appreciation for customer service‑focused maintenance operations.
  • Normal mobility and ability to move around construction sites.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, twist, traverse rugged terrain, climb up and down ladders and scaffolding.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, including up and down stairs, and occasionally lifting and carrying 50 pounds up and down stairs.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license, and be insurable under University's standard auto insurance requirements.
Preferred:
  • Technical/vocational training and four years of experience as an appliance, HVAC, or refrigeration technician with a commercial focus.
  • Experience with commercial dishwashing equipment and water filtration systems
  • Experience with ice machine maintenance

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $28.00 - $32.00 per hour

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level.
