Job summary

The New Mexico Supreme Court is seeking an Appellate Technical Legal Editor (U) in Santa Fe, NM. This full-time, at-will role requires meticulous editing of appellate dispositions, strict adherence to Bluebook and citation standards, and strong communication with Justices and staff.

Ideal candidates bring superior grammar, editing, and legal research skills, with experience reviewing opinions and court documents. Background checks apply; travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Creative Writing, Journalism, Publishing, Paralegal Studies, or a related field.
• Paralegal training/certification or ABA-approved program is a plus.
• Minimum three years in appellate or legal editing environments preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical reviews of appellate dispositions for accuracy, style, and readability.
• Proofread, cite-check, and ensure conformity with legal citations and Bluebook standards.
• Format and edit documents, review content for completeness and accuracy.
• Conduct legal research and analyze opinions, records, and orders.
• Mentor staff on citation rules, writing standards, and editing practices.
• Coordinate document processing and manage project workflows.
