Job summary

South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce seeks an experienced Assistant General/Litigation Counsel to provide legal counsel within the Office of General Counsel. Requirements include a Juris Doctorate, 5+ years of litigation experience, and an active South Carolina Bar.

Qualifications

• Requires juris doctorate and active SC Bar.
• Minimum 5 years of legal experience.
• Knowledge of constitutional, contract, employment, administrative and business law, appellate litigation procedures.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing appeals to South Carolina courts and preparing briefs.
• Conducting legal research and representing the Department in proceedings.
• Assisting in developing legal strategies to defend Department interests.
• Providing counsel to DEW divisions on compliance with federal and state law.
• Participating in meetings with Department attorneys to discuss legal issues.
• Drafting and reviewing documents including proposals, contracts, and confidentiality agreements.
• Providing FOIA and privacy-related counsel and analysis.
