Job summary

The Office of Attorney General Keith Ellison, Minnesota’s large public law office, seeks an appellate attorney for the Criminal Division. Appellate attorneys handle felony appeals statewide, collaborating with prosecutors and other appellate lawyers on postconviction matters.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a law school accredited by the ABA and licensed to practice in Minnesota.
• Six (6) years of experience in criminal law as a prosecutor or defense attorney; or equivalent time as an appellate practitioner.
• Ability to travel to counties across the State.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong research and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Represent the prosecution in appeals of felony convictions in the Minnesota Court of Appeals and Supreme Court.
• Appear at postconviction hearings in district courts statewide or in federal court.
• Train law enforcement and attorneys.
• Serve as a resource for other divisions and collaborate cross-functionally.
• Contribute to a team environment and interact well with clients and the public.
• Multitask by managing an active caseload and meeting tight deadlines.
