The New York State Unified Court System - Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department is seeking candidates for one vacancy in the Appellate Court Attorney Series with titles Principal Appellate Court Attorney, Senior Appellate Court Attorney, Appellate Court Attorney, or Assistant Appellate Court Attorney.

Position resides in the Motions Department, handling motion submissions, dispositions, and drafting orders, with emphasis on strong research, writing, confidentiality, and appellate

Qualifications

• Admission to the New York State Bar is required.
• Three years of service in the Senior Appellate Court Attorney title, or equivalent legal experience? (for Principal).
• Admission to the New York State Bar; for Senior Appellate Court Attorney: two years in Appellate Court Attorney title; for Appellate Court Attorney: admission to the New York State Bar.
• Graduation from an accredited law school with exceptional academic achievement and NYS Bar admission within 18 months of appointment.

Job description

The New York State Unified Court System - Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department is recruiting for one (1) position in the Appellate Court Attorney Series. The position will be filled in one of the following titles and will be dependent on the qualifications and experience of the applicants selected: Principal Appellate Court Attorney, Senior Appellate Court Attorney, Appellate Court Attorney, or Assistant Appellate Court Attorney.

This position is in the Motions Department, which assists the Court with the administration and processing of its motion docket.

Key Responsibilities:

• Reviewing motion submissions.
• Presenting and recommending dispositions.
• Drafting motion orders.
• An ideal candidate should possess excellent research and writing skills, as well as significant oral advocacy or legal presentation experience, and an ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
• Appellate practice experience is highly desired.

Qualifications:

Principal Appellate Court Attorney: Admission to the New York State Bar; and Three years of service in the Senior Appellate Court Attorney title; or Equivalent legal experience.

Senior Appellate Court Attorney: Admission to the New York State Bar; and Two years of service in the Appellate Court Attorney title; or Equivalent legal experience.

Appellate Court Attorney: Admission to the New York State Bar.

Assistant Appellate Court Attorney: Graduation from an accredited law school with an exceptional record of academic achievement such as being a member of the law review, graduating in the top 10% of the class or graduating cum laude or magna cum laude, and admission to the New York State Bar within eighteen months of appointment.
