State of South Carolina is seeking an attorney to handle appeals and support the department's legal work. You will assist outside counsel on civil litigation, provide interpretations of laws to agency staff, and help orient new staff with legal training.

The General Counsel's Office covers constitutional law, litigation, contracts, employment law, and administrative law, offering opportunities across related practice areas with comprehensive state employee benefits.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree or equivalent from an accredited law school.
• Membership in the South Carolina Bar and completion of Rule 403 requirements within six months of employment.
• Experience as a practicing attorney.
• Ability to interpret state and federal laws and agency policies.

Responsabilités

• Handles appeal under the administrative procedures act and manages the department's response.
• Assists outside counsel in defense of civil lawsuits, including investigation and case preparation.
• Provides legal guidance to agency employees, attorneys, court officials and other agencies in the interpretation of state and federal laws and agency policies and procedures.
• Assists General Counsel's Office with agency orientation and legal training.
• Practice areas for the General Counsel's Office include constitutional law, litigation, contracts, employment law, appeals and administrative law.
