Job summary

Deborah in New Jersey is seeking an Advanced Practice Nurse to supervise and perform cardiovascular stress tests, including treadmill and pharmacologic protocols, with duties across outpatient and inpatient cardiology settings.

The role requires NJ RN licensure with APN certification, prescriptive authority, and CDS/DEA credentials within six months. Expect responsibilities spanning patient assessment, QA projects, and coordination with the Nuclear Medical Director.

Qualifications

• Must hold NJ license as a Registered Nurse with Advanced Practice Nurse certification and prescriptive authority.
• Current CDS and DEA licensure within 6 months of employment.
• Broad skills in managing cardiovascular disease in inpatient and critical care settings.
• 0–5 years of experience in general cardiology.

Responsibilities

• Independently supervise and perform stress tests including treadmill and pharmacologic nuclear stress tests and monitor during recovery.
• Administer or order medications for nuclear and non-cardiac studies and manage any needed reversals.
• Take brief patient history, perform focused exam, review resting EKG and vitals; assess test appropriateness and contraindications.
• Assist with QA projects under the Nuclear Medical Director.
• See patients in outpatient General Cardiology Clinic and manage inpatients on the Hospitalist service; perform other department duties as requested.

Job description

Independently supervising and performing stress tests which include exercise treadmill, exercise nuclear treadmill, and pharmacological nuclear stress tests (Lexiscan, dipyridamole, and dobutamine tests.)

1. This involves observing and managing patients during the test and in the recovery period for complications and evidence of ischemia, ordering and administration of the pharmacologic agent as well as any necessary reversal agents, and completing any necessary paperwork pertaining to the stress test.

2. Taking a short relevant history from patients and examination to include: auscultation of heart sounds, reviewing the resting EKG and reviewing patient’s resting vitals, as well as noting if the appropriate test was ordered and if there are any contraindications to stress testing.

Administering/Ordering medications to patients if needed for non-cardiac nuclear studies such as morphine for HIDA’s, etc.

Assisting with QA projects that will be guided by the Nuclear Medical Director

Other Duties:

1. Seeing patients in the outpatient General Cardiology Clinic

2. Managing patients on the inpatient Hospitalist service

3. Performing other duties in the Cardiology Department as requested

Experience: 0-5 years Experience in field of General Cardiology

Education: Master’s degree or greater. Graduate from an ANA accredited School of Nursing

Required License / Credentials: NJ License as a Registered Nurse and Certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse through a specialty association, with prescriptive authority. Current CDS and DEA required within 6-months of employment. Approval of credentials and clinical privileges per Center procedure.

Other Required Skills: BCLS & ACLS. Broad skills in management of cardiovascular disease, both on general inpatients as well as in critical care highly desirable. Other experience, such as cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology, pacing, and interventional cardiology is desirable but not mandatory.

Contact With Others: Regular internal and/or external contacts involving considerable tact, discretion and persuasion in order to obtain information and/or willing action or consent where it would otherwise be difficult to obtain.

Supervision Given: Responsibilities of the position may require supervision of First Year fellows during their nuclear rotation.

Supervision Received: Performs duties commensurate with approved privileges established procedures and reporting to Medical Director.

The rate for this position is $70.00 per hour.
