Job summary

Joseph Michaels International is seeking an Assistant Project Manager for heavy civil highway and utility projects in Virginia. The position is based in the Fredericksburg area with relocation assistance available.

You will work with a senior PM on roadway and utility work, coordinating submittals, RFIs, procurement, and cost controls while helping to keep schedules current and safe on site. This role offers a clear path to project leadership within a family-owned contractor with 50+ years in

Qualifications

• 3+ years on heavy civil, highway or utility projects as a Field Engineer, Project Engineer or APM.
• VDOT or other DOT project experience strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of scheduling and cost tracking.
• B.S. in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent field experience.
• HeavyJob, Bluebeam or P6 experience is a plus.
• Valid driver's license.
• Based in Virginia or ready to relocate, relocation assistance available.

Responsibilities

• Drive submittals, RFIs and procurement so field crews stay ahead of the work.
• Coordinate subcontractors and supplier purchase orders.
• Track quantities, production and cost against budget.
• Prepare monthly pay applications and cost projections.
• Support schedule updates and change management.
• Work with VDOT inspectors and owner representatives.
• Keep project documentation clean and current.
• Take part in weekly schedule and cost reviews with the project team.
• Support a strong jobsite safety culture.
