Job summary

American Equity Investment Life Insurance Company in Des Moines, IA seeks a Manager, Applications Development to lead a high‑performing team delivering and supporting AE Connect, the enterprise API platform. You will partner with Product Owners and stakeholders to design, configure, and implement solutions that meet business outcomes while adhering to schedule, budget, and scope.

The role requires deep .NET expertise, cloud/AWS knowledge, REST API principles, and strong leadership.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in CS, MIS, IT or related field with six years of progressively responsible technical experience.
Experience implementing and supporting enterprise API platforms.
Experience working with, and managing, teams that include offshore members.

Responsibilities

Leads teams comprised of business analysts and software developers to deliver technology solutions.
Leads implementation across multiple domains within the enterprise API platform.
Owns and executes the technical roadmap for assigned software development team(s).
Ensures engineering excellence through automated testing, CI/CD, and cloud-oriented delivery patterns.
Establishes API lifecycle governance including versioning, documentation, and security controls.
Drives adoption of domain-driven design and event-based patterns for scalable architecture.
Ensures production readiness through observability, incident response, and performance monitoring.
