Job summary

PayPal in Austin, Texas seeks a technical leader for the API Management platform. You will coordinate engineers, set technical direction, own design and operational health of core APIM components, and mentor teams across Product, Security, and Engineering Operations.

You will drive the technical roadmap, evaluate trade-offs, ensure governance and observability, and own availability, performance, and on-call incident response for PayPal’s APIs.

Qualifications

• 5+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent.
• 8+ years of experience with Java, Python, or equivalent high-level language.
• Deep experience designing and operating APIs at scale: GraphQL, REST, gRPC, gateways, rate limiting, OAuth2/OIDC.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate activities of other engineers on the API Management project.
• Determine technical tasks and ensure objectives are met.
• Improve structures, processes, and make design decisions affecting internal/external teams.
• Mentor engineers and advise senior leaders on platform systems and strategy.
• Own availability and performance; participate in on-call and incident response.
