The Agency of Transportation (AOT) has an exciting opportunity in the Construction & Materials Bureau for two Technical Apprentices. These positions include roles as a Lab Apprentice and Courier. The Courier duties involve traveling in a state-owned fleet vehicle to collect samples from various projects and returning them to our central lab in Berlin. The Lab Apprentice duties include assisting in multiple labs across the state and supporting the Lab Technician with testing and related tasks. Both positions are based in Berlin, VT, and require fulfilling all listed responsibilities.
These are temporary positions with flexible start and end dates, potentially extending through December. Candidates are expected to work approximately 40 hours per week, with some occasional overtime, though schedules are flexible.

Work is performed in both office and field settings, requiring private transportation. Fieldwork may expose workers to hazardous materials, traffic, construction sites, rough terrain, bodies of water, and extreme weather conditions. Equipment weighing up to 40 pounds may be carried, and work may involve traversing steep terrain, working from boats, or working at heights.
Associate degree or 60 college credits in civil engineering, environmental technology, engineering technology, surveying, construction technology, or architecture. Alternatively, a high school diploma or equivalent plus two years of relevant engineering support experience, or three seasons of work as an AOT Technical Apprentice III with the State of Vermont.
Valid driver's license is required; transportation may be necessary for field assignments.
