Job summary

Direct Counsel is seeking an Antitrust Associate Attorney with 2–4 years of experience to join a leading global law firm and its renowned Antitrust practice within the Litigation & Enforcement department.

Location: Washington, D.C. The ideal candidate will advise corporate clients on merger reviews, antitrust compliance, investigations, and related transactional matters, and will handle government investigations alongside top practitioners.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of relevant antitrust experience advising corporate clients on antitrust laws and regulations.
  • Experience with pre-merger antitrust due diligence and risk assessments.
  • Strong knowledge of current antitrust laws and regulations.
  • Experience with Second Request compliance.
  • Experience defending corporate clients in government antitrust investigations.
  • Thorough understanding of the government antitrust investigation process.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience at the FTC or DOJ Antitrust Division preferred; government and law firm experience welcome.
  • Admission to the District of Columbia Bar required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct antitrust due diligence in mergers and acquisitions.
  • Assess deal- and conduct-related antitrust risks and lead the review process.
  • Interview clients and discuss matters with opposing counsel.
  • Prepare and review antitrust documents for transactions.
  • Handle Second Requests and responses in investigations.
  • Represent clients in FTC/DOJ/state investigations.
  • Prepare white papers and advocacy materials for agencies.
  • Prepare clients for hearings and depositions.
  • Advise on antitrust compliance and investigation procedures.
  • Represent in consent negotiations, hearings and litigation.
  • Monitor developments in antitrust laws and regulations.
  • Train and mentor junior associates.

Antitrust Associate Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking an Antitrust Associate Attorney with 2–4 years of experience to join a leading global law firm and its highly regarded Antitrust practice within the Litigation & Enforcement department.

Position Overview

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of antitrust laws and government regulatory procedures, with experience advising corporate clients on merger reviews, antitrust compliance, investigations, and related transactional matters. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with experience handling sophisticated government investigations and complex antitrust issues to work alongside leading practitioners.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct antitrust due diligence in connection with mergers and acquisitions.

  • Assess deal-related and conduct-related antitrust risks and lead the antitrust review process.

  • Conduct client interviews and discussions with opposing counsel regarding antitrust matters.

  • Prepare and review legal documents related to the antitrust aspects of corporate transactions.

  • Handle Second Requests and responses to compulsory process in government antitrust investigations.

  • Represent clients in investigations conducted by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), and state antitrust authorities.

  • Prepare white papers, presentations, and other advocacy materials for government agencies.

  • Prepare clients for investigational hearings and depositions.

  • Advise clients and internal transaction teams on antitrust compliance and government investigation procedures.

  • Represent clients in consent negotiations, hearings, and antitrust litigation.

  • Monitor developments in antitrust laws and regulations and advise clients regarding their implications.

  • Train and mentor junior associates.

Qualifications
  • 2–4 years of relevant antitrust experience advising corporate clients on antitrust laws and regulations.

  • Experience with pre-merger antitrust due diligence and risk assessments.

  • Strong knowledge of current antitrust laws and regulations.

  • Experience with Second Request compliance.

  • Experience defending corporate clients in government antitrust investigations conducted by the FTC, DOJ, and/or state authorities.

  • Thorough understanding of the government antitrust investigation process.

  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Experience at the FTC or DOJ Antitrust Division preferred; candidates with a combination of government and law firm experience are particularly encouraged to apply.

  • Admission to the District of Columbia Bar required.

Compensation

The anticipated salary range for this position is $235,000–$310,000 annually, depending on qualifications, experience, and other relevant factors.
